Sermon: "Why He Doesn't Answer Your Prayers"

Introduction

Beloved, how many of us have cried out to God in desperation—pouring out our hearts, fasting, pleading—only to feel like heaven is silent? We wonder, “Lord, why won’t You answer?” Today’s message may not be comfortable, but it is Biblical and freeing. The silence we sometimes experience is not because God is unloving or powerless. Often, it is an invitation to examine our walk with Him. Scripture shows a clear pattern: the closer we walk with God in obedience,= the more OBEDIENCE= the more intimately He responds to our prayers.

Main Point 1: Distance Comes from Disobedience

God desires “Relationship”, not ritual. James 4:8 promises, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” But YOU cannot draw near while walking in the opposite direction DISOBEYING the 10 Commandments, and especially disobeying his 4^th commandment” Remember Saturday to keep it Holy as “HIS” 7^th day SATURDAY Sabbath. Think of a marriage. If one spouse repeatedly ignores the other’s clear requests, intimacy fades. Prayer becomes formal and fruitless. God is merciful and patient, but He does not reward your rebellion with cozy fellowship. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

Love is not just emotion—it is obedience. Without it (obedience), we remain distant.

Main Point 2: Obedience Brings Abiding Closeness

The beautiful flip side is this: Obedience draws God near. In John 15, Jesus uses the vine-and-branches picture.

“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7). Abiding means staying connected—letting His words shape our daily decisions. When we obey, we remain in His love (John 15:10), and the Father and Son make Their home with us (John 14:23).

1 John 3:22 seals it: “Whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.”

Obedience is not earning answers like wages—it is the evidence of a living, trusting relationship. The more we obey, the more our desires align with His will, and the more confidently we pray (1 John 5:14-15).

Main Point 3: Common Reasons Prayers Go Unanswered

Unconfessed sin — Cherished iniquity blocks the line (Psalm 66:18).
Selfish motives — James 4:3 warns we ask wrongly, to spend on our passions.
Lack of abiding — We want the blessings of John 15:7 without letting His words abide in us.
Not according to His will — God loves us too much to give what would harm us or derail His purposes.
Timing and testing — Sometimes silence builds faith, perseverance, or character (though this message focuses on the obedience aspect).

God is not a vending machine. He is a Father and He wants those sons and daughters who walk with Him and who do NOT oppose His Bible printed words, He wants people like Enoch or Abraham—by faith and obedience.

Conclusion and Call to Action

Why doesn’t He answer? In many cases, it is because we have drifted.

But here is the good news: The door is wide open! Repent today. Return to first love. Obey what you already know from Scripture. Draw near through confession, surrender, and daily obedience—and watch Him draw near to you.

Start small: Identify one area of known disobedience and obey today. Spend time in His Word so it abides in you. Then pray with fresh confidence. Our God hears the cries of the righteous. He delights to answer those who walk closely with Him.

Let us pray: Father, forgive us for distance we’ve created from You.. Cleanse us. Help us obey out of love to you..

Draw us near, and manifest Yourself in us. In Jesus’/Yahushua’s name, Amain.
