If they rebel (after being given 100 years of human life to choose to go Jesus' way), they will then be put into the Lake of Fire (Rev. 20:15) and that will be the end of them (there will not even be a memory of them Isa 26:14).
That way they cannot make everyone around them miserable for eternity, and that way they cannot make themselves miserable for eternity. The most merciful thing that God can do is to burn them up in the Lake of Fire. It will be nearly instantaneously.
